Philadelphia Daily News Interview
Based in New York City, The Honey Brothers started as an all-acoustic “living room” project, just “to find some joy in life” after the horrors of 9/11, said Gold.
“It was a time when people sought comfort and healing with their friends,“ added group banjoist, guitarist and second ukulele strummer Andrew Vladeck, also in on the conference call. “We’d get together and make dinner, drink booze and learn old folk songs. Then we’d wander outside and sing for people on street corners.“

While the band has adopted a slightly more serious air - well, as serious as one can get while wearing short shorts and a dashiki onstage, as Gold has been known to do - levity is still important to them.
"If there's a 7 percent humor component in the band, that's because life should be at least 7 percent humorous," Gold says. "As musicians and committed members of the band, we're very serious, but as people who want to bring some happiness to an audience, there's going to be some playfulness."

"Naturally, Adrian Grenier is reachable at the Hotel de Soleil in sexy South Beach. One needn't even drop a name to get him on the line; just ask for Penthouse 3, precisely the spot you would find a hot young actor like Vincent Chase - or the hot young actor Grenier, who plays Chase on HBO's "Entourage." But this is no television junket; Grenier is in Miami on tour with his band, the Honey Brothers, which plays good-humored indie rock and performs at T.T. the Bear's on Sunday. The musical group predates the television show by several years, which makes Grenier's bandmate Ari Gold, who shares a name with Jeremy Piven's "Entourage" character, wonder why he isn't receiving royalty checks from HBO. No matter. Rock conquers all, as Grenier explains."

“It may be no secret that The Honey Brothers aren’t really brothers at all ~ well, except for two of them ~ and guitarist Andrew Vladeck’s real name isn’t Dory Honey, though don’t ask him to admit it right away. What he will admit at least is a certain kinship with his fellow bandmates. “We all get along like brothers,” he says about the band’s moniker and the decision to use fake names. “There was something nice about reinventing ourselves and having alter-egos.” Nice, yes, but at first confusing for outsiders ~ it was all this writer could do to remember that Singer/pianist Ari Gold becomes H. Hoyt Honey, Gold’s twin brother and bassist Ethan is Kid Walker Honey, and guitarist D.S. Posner goes by Dr. J. Carl Honey.“

Glam ukulele rock that manages to reference the country-tinged sensitivity of the Silver Jews, the Beach Boys’ summery harmonies and the playful weirdness of Ween.
Gothamist.com Interview
“The Honey Brothers claim they’re “the only hard-rockin’ pop band with ukulele” and since we don’t know too many other rock-pop bands featuring ukulele, they get our vote.
Starting out as a dual-ukulele singing trio on the streets of New York, The Honey Brothers have ripened into a full-fledged band that draws comparison to Ween and the Silver Jews and is worthy of rocking out at a haunt like the Mercury Lounge (see details about tonight’s show after the interview).“

"Their eclectic music sounds like a combination of G. Love and Special Sauce, Dave Matthews and The Grateful Dead. When asked to describe their sound, the answer entailed four words that I had never heard comprise a genre before: "Appalachian-Hawaiian Glam Rock," according to Gold.
Appalachian-Hawaiian Glam Rock may not be what people would automatically cancel plans to see in person, but the band sees a difference in the people who come to see their shows once they soak in the band’s original sound."
